Do Your Feet Hurt? BACK TO TOP

Everyday your feet are subjected to the Stresses and Strains of everyday living. During a typical day the feet of an average person will endure a cumulative force of several hundred tons, and walk the equivalent of five times around the world during their lifetime. It is therefore no wonder that foot problems affect over one-third of the population.

Healthy Feet Are Happy Feet BACK TO TOP

It is very easy to leave minor foot problems and hope they go away. However, most foot problems are unlikely to correct themselves and can usually get worse. Professional foot care can help keep your feet healthy and happy.

We Provide “Total” Foot Care BACK TO TOP

At the Freed Clinic, we offer a fully comprehensive Foot Care Service. All our Chiropodists/Podiatrists are State Registered and can offer Advice, Diagnosis and Treatment to Alleviate, Prevent and Cure all conditions affecting the feet and lower limbs.

Why Is It Important To Be State Registered? BACK TO TOP
Not everyone calling themselves a Chiropodist or Podiatrist is State Registered, only practitioners using SRCh are listed on the state register. To reach this standard they must have completed a 3 year diploma course.

What Is The Difference Between Podiatry & Chiropody? BACK TO TOP
Podiatry involves:
Assessment of Walking/Gait Style; Prescription & Manufacture of Insoles/Orthotics; Sports Medicine; Physical Therapy; Surgery (bunions, ingrowing toenails etc).
Chiropody:
Refers to the more traditional activities: Corns; Callouses; Problem Toe Nails; Verrucae; Fungal Infections.

Children’s Feet BACK TO TOP

Childhood foot conditions such as: Flat Feet, Curved Feet and Toe Walking can cause a child to walk or run in an unnatural way. Although parents are often told that their child “will grow out of it”, reassurance from a specialist can go a long way in easing parent’s concerns.

Growth should not be a painful process, so if your child does suffer from a foot problem, it is best to deal with it now to prevent more serious problems later on in life.

Over 50’s BACK TO TOP

Foot problems in later life are often related to circulatory impairment or arthritis. Routine visits can help monitor secondary foot disorders and prevent further complications.

Biomechanics BACK TO TOP

Biomechanics - is a term which describes the physical aspects of how the body moves. It studies joints and how muscles, tendons and ligaments bring about and restrict movement. Our Podiatrist uses it to work out why a patient may be developing a deformity such as Claw Toes, Bunions, Flat Feet Etc. Once the cause of the problem is known it is possible to find a solution.

Treatment will include advice on exercise and stretching and may involve prescription and provision of individual appliances and orthotics to compensate for the structural imbalances affecting the function of the feet and legs.

Orthotics BACK TO TOP

Orthotics - These are custom made insoles that fit inside your shoes enabling your feet to be held in a more stable position. They are a product of biomechanical research and are designed to correct foot abnormalities by balancing the three most important components of your foot, Bones, Muscles and Tendons.

They are very useful if you suffer from any of the following painful conditions:
Bunions
Corns/Calluses
Foot, Ankle, Hip and Back Pain

Conditions Treated

Corns & Callouses BACK TO TOP

These are areas of hard skin which often press against the underlying nerve endings causing pain. They are caused by the friction and pressure from your shoes against the ground. Although they can appear anywhere they are mostly found on the ball of the foot and the top of the toes.

Ingrowing Toenails BACK TO TOP

This painful condition is caused by the edge of the nail growing into the side of the toe. It can easily be corrected by the removal of the infected edge and the application of the appropriate antiseptics. More severe cases may involve minor surgery under local anaesthetic.

Verrucae BACK TO TOP

This condition is caused by a virus. They are normally found on the soles of the feet and often look like small blisters with black dots in the centre. They often resolve on their own but more persistent, or painful ones, can be treated very easily with Acid Treatments or Cryotherapy (Freezing).

Bunions BACK TO TOP

Bunions are mostly due to an inherited imbalance. They appear as a painful bony enlargement on the inside of the foot. Shoes can aggravate the condition. Where possible, the treatment is conservative through the use of orthotic insoles to correct the imbalance and relieve pain. However, in severe cases surgery may be necessary.
