| What
is Reflexology?
|
 |
Reflexology
is a holistic healing technique that has been used for thousands
of years. The term "holistic" comes from the
Greek word holos, which means "whole". When
you visit a reflexologist the aim of the treatment is not just
to treat the ailment which you have but the whole of you, body,
mind and spirit with the object of inducing a state of balance
and harmony.
It should not be confused
with foot massage. It is a specific pressure technique that is
based on the principle that the body is reflected in miniature
on reflex areas of the feet.

| How
Can Reflexology Help You?
|
 |
Following illness,
stress, injury or disease, your body is in a state of imbalance
and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing it from functioning
effectively. Reflexology is able to restore and maintain the body’s
natural balance and encourage healing.
By applying
gentle pressure to your feet a reflexologst can detect tiny deposits
and imbalances. Working on these points the reflexologist is able
to release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the
whole body. Stress & tension are freed, and circulation and
elimination are improved. encouraging the body to heal itself
at its own pace.
| Who
can benefit from reflexology?
|
 |
People of any age or
sex can have reflexology and because it treats the whole person,
not the symptoms of disease, most people benefit from treatment.
Once your
body is balanced, it is wise to have regular treatments in order
to maintain your health and well-being.
| Reflexology
and Stress
|
 |
Almost 70%
of disorders can be traced back to stress.Reflexology helps to
alleviate the effects of stress by inducing deep relaxation allowing
the nervous system to function normally. A relaxed body is able
to heal itself and reflexology is a guaranteed method of relaxing
the body and balancing your biological systems without any unpleasant
side effects.
| What
happens during a reflexology session?
|
 |
As reflexology
is a holistic therapy, it is important that your therapist understands
your body as a whole and has a complete picture of your health,
so at the start of your first visit your general health and medical
history are discussed.
After cleansing
your feet and making sure you are comfortable, work then begins
on identifying and noting any problem areas on your feet. Firm
pressure is applied to the relevant reflex area using special
thumb and finger techniques. This causes physiological changes
to take place as the body’s own healing potential is stimulated.
There may be discomfort in some places, but it passes very quickly,
and can be an indication of congestion or imbalance in a corresponding
part of the body. For the most part though the sensation is very
pleasant and soothing.
A course of treatment
varies in length depending on your body’s needs and usually
lasts for about one hour, although the initial consultation may
add some time to your first visit.
